Window Treatments Dallas-Insiders Guide

Window treatments is a type of interior decoration which is applied to windows, also referred to by some people as window coverings. Window treatments can generally be divided into two broad groups, hard window treatments which use hard materials like wood and soft window treatments which use soft materials.

Hard Window Treatments

These are made up of shutters, blinds and shades. Shutters can be made of wood or poly resin material, they are installed on windows for security or privacy. Interior shutters are usually installed on the inside of the window frame while opposite is exterior shutters which are installed on the outside of the window frame.

Blinds on the other hand are hard coverings and can be made from wood, plastic, fabric or metal. Blinds can be either the roller blinds, pleated blinds, vertical blinds or venetian blinds. Blinds have slats that can be tilted to let the sunshine in, they are usually adjusted either manually to open and close.

Shades are treatments that are installed on the windows and are used in controlling the natural light that gets into a room. Different types of shades include roller shades which are usually fitted on the inside of a window and controlled with a pulley which is used to roll the shades up and down to control sunlight. Balloon shades have rings which have cords which are pulled either up or down to control light. We also have tie-up shades where the fabric is tied up to control sunlight and roman shades which are raised or lowered to control the light that is entering a room

Soft Window Treatments

These can either be curtains or draperies. These enhance the beauty of a room by use of soft materials. The difference between curtains and drapes is that as opposed to curtains, drapes have an inner lining that is used to protect them from damage. The lining also creates an impression of luxury and enables more control of light, whereas, curtains are of much lighter material.

Overall, window treatments are one enhancement that can really set off a room and there are lots of options available.

You can really enhance the interior atmosphere of your home and by controlling the light source into your home by adding window coverings. And not to forget the perceived value it adds to your home as well.

Certain windows like bay windows will require someone with more experience to do the proper measuring and installation since those will generally be custom window treatment installations.. Window coverings can be done by the do-it-yourselfer but it's highly suggested you hire professionals to take care of the project so it gets done right the first time, you'll be glad you did in the long run.
