Window Treatment Questions-Insiders Guide

Paradoxically, most people find it very difficult to take decisions regarding window treatment because they have so many options to choose from. This article will help you to quickly understand the basics of modern window treatment so that you may be in a better position to decide what you may want.

There are two types of window treatments: hard and soft.

Hard modern window treatment

This includes specialty glass applications, shutters, screens, and blinds.

Specialty glass treatments include the use of material like beveled glass, stained glass, liquid crystal technology, frosted glass, and glass blocks. Stained glass is often used when undesirable views have to be concealed. Earlier, stained glasses windows were installed permanently, now-a-days; it is possible to attach a framed piece on an existing window. One of the marvels of modern window treatment is the use of liquid crystal technology to change a window from opaque to clear by just flicking a switch.

People have been using shutters for ages. They are still very popular as they provide very good insulation. These structures are usually built of wood or faux wood.

Screens have also been popular because they provide privacy and yet allow daylight to enter the room. These days, Japanese-style shojis with rice paper panes are used by people who have Asian themed room. These screens are also suitable for minimalist interiors. Spanish and middle-eastern style windows with grillwork screens are also quite appealing because of their striking patterns.

Many types of blinds are in vogue now. Along with Venetian or slat blinds, miniblinds, and verticals; woven wood blinds and wooden slat blinds are most popular.

Soft modern window treatments

Soft treatment involves the use of fabric in the form of curtains, shades, valances, and draperies.

Austrian, Roman, pleated fabric, interior sun control, and roller shades are used quite often by modern designers. Various types of roman shades like the hobbled, pleated, or flat models are used according to the design of the room. These shades are designed to fold horizontally when a cord is tugged.

Although valances are non-functional, they enhance the beauty of a casement. Modern window treatment experts design valances as jabots or cascade for aesthetic purposes.

Curtains are used to control the amount of sunlight that enters a room, the degree of privacy that the inmates enjoy in a room and also to decorate interiors. Some people use fixed drapery panels to add a touch of class without spending too much.

Now that you know what options are available, you should be able to easily decide which type of modern treatment you need for your room.
